KCEU holds demonstration outside the Indian Embassy

Brussels, January 26 (KMS): The Kashmir Centre European Union (KCEU) staged a demonstration outside the Indian embassy in Brussels, today.   January 26th is celebrated as Republic Day in India; the anniversary of the signing of the post-colonial constitution in 1950. In occupied Kashmir the day is observed as a Black Day as the Kashmiris yet to be granted their own freedom.

Barrister Abdul Majid Tramboo, Chairman KCEU, addressing the demonstrators on the occasion said that India had been committing human rights violations in occupied Kashmir for last several years. He said that India claimed to be the biggest democracy but it had deprived the people of Kashmir of their political and democratic rights.

He said the stalled EU-India Free Trade Agreement is one example of the ghosts continuing to haunt India.  While a EU-India Free Trade Agreement may be in the interests of the people of Europe and India, a respect for human rights in the occupied will be to the benefit of all people.

The KCEU will continue to pressure the European institutions to push India to respect human rights in occupied Kashmir, before the FTA is signed into law, he added. He vowed that KCEU would continue work to raise the Kashmir dispute till its resolution in accordance with Kashmiris’ aspirations.

Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo said the laws, which permit the human rights violations like arbitrary detention, execution, torture and rape such acts were still on the books. The black laws such as the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) give broad ranging immunity for agents of the Indian state who have been committing the worst kind of human rights violations in the occupied territory.

He said that KCEU had always worked and would continue to work to highlight and examine such laws with the EU institutions and the mechanisms of the United Nations until they were appropriately rectified and the people of Indian Held Kashmir had achieved their freedom.

Raja Zaheer Ahmed, President Advisory Council Kashmir Centre, Jabbar Khan (JKPP), Raja Tasawar Hayatt  (PML-N AJK), Salman Khan (PML-N AJK), Raja Mehmood (PML-N AJK), Mirza Maqsood Ahmed (PML-N AJK), Nawaz Butt, PPP, Malak Ikhlaq Aman (PPP), Hasnat Shah Boukhari (Menhaj-ul-Quran), Dr Ahmed Mehmood (PPP) and Zahid Huaain Shah, Member ACKC, participated in the protest demonstration.
