Kashmiris observe self-determination day

World appealed to help resolve Kashmir dispute

Srinagar, January 05 (KMS): Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the world over are observing the Right of Self-determination Day, today, to remind the world that the UN resolutions on Kashmir remained unimplemented for more than six decades now.

It was on this day in 1949, that the United Nations adopted a resolution, acknowledging right of self-determination of Kashmiris and giving them the right to decide their future by themselves.

Kashmiris will hold forceful demonstrations, seminars and conferences, today, to mark the occasion. The All Parties Hurriyet Conference is organising a seminar in Srinagar, which would be presided over by its Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Similar functions are going to be held in London and other world capitals.

Senior APHC leader, Maulana Abbas Ansari, in a media interview in Srinagar appealed to the international community to help resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with Kashmiris’ aspirations and in line with relevant UN resolutions. The APHC spokesman in a statement in Srinagar expressed concern over the continued illegal detention of Hurriyet leaders including Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan and Muhammad Saleem Nunnaji.

People took to the streets in Mendhar area of Poonch against the installation of anti-tank and anti-missile guns in their fields by Indian army. Journalists of different media organizations took out a protest march from Press Colony to Lal Chowk in Srinagar against Indian troops’ use of force against photojournalists at Nowhatta on Friday.

Meanwhile, Indian troops, in their fresh act of state terrorism, martyred one more innocent Kashmiri youth at Kharkola in Jammu. »
