Srinagar, May 04 (KMS): Indian police have severely tortured three Kashmiri detainees languishing in Delhi’s Tihar jail resulting in a serious head injury to one of them.
The three detainees Lateef Ahmed, Javed Ahmed Khan and Abdul Gani were taken to Gujrat to appear before a court and on their way back one of them, Javed Ahmed Khan complained of some sort of illness and wanted to sleep, but the police personnel escorting them did not allow him to sleep but instead ordered him to remain awake.
The other two prisoners, Lateef and Javed requested the police to let Abdul Gani have rest, but the police reacted brutally and started beating the detainees ruthlessly till all of them felt unconscious. Abdul Gani’s head was seriously injured. The detainees on reaching back to Tihar jail, filed a written complaint to the jail authorities regarding the incident.
The President of occupied Kashmir Bar Association, Nazir Ahmed Ronga strongly condemned the incident and said that Kashmiri detainees were being treated inhumanly both in and outside the jails. He added that these detainees were also being kept with criminals in the jails. He urged the authorities to take steps to stop such incidents in future.
Last year, in a similar incident, the Delhi police thrashed a Kashmiri detainee on his way back to Tihar jail from Srinagar.
The President of Committee for Release of Political Prisoners, Abdul Rehman Gilani termed the act as a clear case of state terrorism and appealed to International Committee of Red Cross and Human Right Commission to take serious notice of these human rights abuses taking place in various Indian jails.
