Kashmiri boy not being released despite court order

Srinagar, January 26 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, a Kashmiri boy was not released despite order by the High Court and has been languishing in police lock-up since his detention in 2010 on charge of participating in a protest demonstration.

Indian police arrested Tariq Ahmed of Bemina in Srinagar in October 2010 under the draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA) and later shifted him to Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu.

His family challenged his detention by filing a petition in the court through counsel Advocate Shabbir Ahmad.

A bench of High Court in June 2011, terming Tariq’s detention under PSA unlawful, directed his immediate release. After the court order, he was immediately re-arrested and lodged into Parimpora Police Station in Srinagar.

The court orders are hardly complied in occupied Kashmir and due to violation of these orders, the fundamental rights of the petitioners are trampled upon,” the counsel added.

“After Tariq’s arrest my younger son has left studies and became an auto rickshaw driver to support the family,” Tariq’s mother said.
