Srinagar, May 05 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, after losing their young son in a fake encounter last year, a family in Srinagar has been receiving threats from the Kupwara police to forget the case.

Riyaz Ahmed Butt, an 18-year-old youth from Kalashpora area of Srinagar was killed in a fake encounter by Indian troops in Kandi area of Kupwara on April 29, 2007. Since then Riyaz’s family have been going from pillar to post to obtain the photographs and FIR copy of the killing.

Javed Ahmed, brother of the slain youth said, “Police not only refuses to give the documents but is abusing and threatening us.”

More than a year after Riyaz’s death, his family has been fighting to give him a decent burial. “I left my ailing father unattended at home and rushed many a time to Kupwara,” Javed said, adding,  “I erected an epitaph on my brother’s grave with the help of local villagers. But the police is still refusing to give me the copy of the FIR.”
