Srinagar, July 13 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, trauma ward in Soura Institute of Medical Sciences witnessed an increase in the number of patients during the month of June as the casualties suffered in the ten-day long agitation against land transfer of Kashmiris’ to non-Kashmiris’.
In a report issued by the Soura institute said that in June 2008 the Accident and Emergency Department received 3995 patients for management in critical care sickness with various disorders out of which 2281 needed hospitalisation, adding that the institute is facing tremendous pressure in handling excessive trauma patients visiting the institute.
Six civilians were killed and nearly 1000 injured by using of brute force by Indian troops in all parts of the Kashmir valley from June 23.
The report said during this period, 117 patients of Trauma Head were attended to by the Department of Neurosurgery. In addition, scores of people with abdominal trauma, chest trauma and Poly Trauma were managed.
Director of the institute, Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar said, ‘‘we are well placed to look after these patients, but given the quantum of the emergency load, quality at times suffers.'' This huge increase also at times created security, sanitation and administrative hassles. In spite of a relatively high number of patients with trauma, mortality was almost negligible, he added.
