Srinagar, April 19 (KMS): Students of the Kashmir University have filed an application before the Chief Justice of occupied Kashmir High Court seeking judicial intervention to preserve the unattended heritage sites and retrieve the rare artefacts stolen from the official museum or shifted outside Kashmir.
Different archaeological departments of India and the occupied territory have been held responsible for the misappropriation of precious archives and ill treatment meted out to various heritage sites of the occupied territory.
One of the legal counsels of Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU) while talking to media men said that at least 50 instances have been quoted in the application to highlight the authorities’ callous attitude toward preserving the Kashmir’s heritage.
The KUSU has also sought judicial intervention into the issues regarding the theft of 400-year-old antique copy of Quran handwritten by the Mughal King Aurangzeb and gold coins of Muslim rule in Kashmir. In addition the bad conditions of graves and tombs of famous Kashmiri saints and poets was also highlighted.
