IHK fruit growers threaten protests

Srinagar, July 08 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the fruit growers have threatened to stage protests and self immolation if the puppet administration do not provide safe passage to the trucks ferrying apples from Srinagar to Jammu and different parts of India.

Hundreds of tucks carrying apples from the valley have been stopped at Srinagar-Jammu highway for the last several days by the Hindu extremists causing huge losses to the fruit growers.

The President of Baramulla Fruit Growers and Dealers Association, Ghulam Rasool Butt, said "If BJP, Bajrang Dal and other Hindu extremists continue to stop trucks we will forcibly take our apple trucks via Srinagar Muzaffarabad road to other markets of South Asia.” He demanded that the puppet administration should provide alternative route to export fruit to outside the occupied territory.

The President Fruit Buyers Association Sopore, Haji Farooq Ahmed Malik said that fruit industry in Kashmir has already met huge blow due the bad weather conditions at very outset of crop season and now the blockade has left the fruits to rot in markets.

The fruit growers and buyers warned that if the authorities failed to address the issue as early as possible they would come on roads and stage valley wide protest demonstrations. "We will come on roads with our children as thousands of families are completely dependent upon fruit industry," said Mohammed Maqbool Jan, a fruit dealer.
