Srinagar, May 30 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the relief material of worth crores, for the October 8 earthquake hit areas of the territory, has not been distributed among the victims till date and is rotting in different godowns.
The relief material is dumped at Disaster Management Stores (DMS) at Bemina, Roads and Buildings Construction Division-I at Barbarshah, Construction Division- II at Exhibition Crossing and at Left River Circular Road Project (LRCR) in Bemina. The relief material was received in 2005 and was dumped in godowns at these places but the number of godowns was not sufficient to house the whole material, which made the authorities dump the material in open.
A top Official at DMS Bemina said,” Due to non-availability of closed godowns the relief material could not be protected as it was left in the open space and that too was inadequate.
According to another official relief material worth 6 crores was damaged by the floods in September 2006.
