Srinagar, April 19 (KMS): The High Court Bar Association has said that illegally detained Kashmiri prisoners languishing in different jails in India and occupied Kashmir are suffering from life-threatening diseases.
This was revealed in a statement, issued by the six-bar member team after returning from its 11-day visit to 13 different jails including, Kathua, Kot Bhalwal and India’s infamous Tihar, Rohini and Agra. Nazir Ahmad Roonga, the Bar President led the team.
The statement said, “Tough weather conditions, unhygienic atmosphere, isolated and narrow cells and sub-standard food have deteriorated the health of the detainees, adding, “The condition of some of the detainees is pathetic, who are suffering from cancer and other life-threatening diseases”.
It further said, “A number of inmates mostly minors have turned lunatics. We were shocked on seeing their condition,” adding, a detailed report about the jails’ visit would be made public in a couple of days.
