Srinagar, April 25 (KMS): After Indian government’s directives to stop airing Pakistan-based TV channels, the cable operators of occupied Kashmir have gone on an indefinite strike against the decision and stopped beaming all Indian and International channels.
Irfan Ahmad, Vice president of Take One Technologies while talking to mediamen in Srinagar said, “We have called for indefinite strike from Friday onwards and taken the step to express our resentment against the decision.” He pointed out that only local channels had been operating, for registering protests. “We have put scrolls, reading protest messages on these channels,” he said.
He said that the decision was taken during a meeting of cable operators adding that after cable operators stopped beaming the channels, they have been receiving countless calls from viewers across the valley since last night. “It is really strange, when people are talking of one currency and films are being screened, they talk of bans,” Irfan grumbled.
The cable operators said that the order strictly forbids them from beaming non-Indian based channels.
On Monday, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry of India issued an order directing cable operators of occupied Kashmir to block the airing of all the Pakistani television channels in the occupied territory.
