Human rights violations on the rise in IHK: HC Bar

Srinagar, December 10 (KMS): The High Court Bar Association of occupied Kashmir organised a seminar in connection with International Human Rights Day at Sadarkot in Srinagar.

President of the Bar, Mian Abdul Qayoom, Secretary General, Ghulam Nabi Shaheen, senior advocate, Zafar Qureshi, intellectuals and Hurriyet leaders addressed the seminar.

The speakers said that human rights violations in occupied Kashmir were on the rise for last 20 years. They said that more than 100,000 Kashmiris had been killed by Indian troops in last two decades, while 10,000 persons were disappeared in custody. Similarly, they said that more than 300,000 Kashmiris were tortured in jails and interrogation centres.

The speakers further said that over 50,000 people became disabled due to use of brute force by Indian troops while thousands of children were orphaned and many women widowed.

They said that human rights violations were increasing due to the pending Kashmir dispute, adding that its peaceful and amicable settlement could establish permanent peace in South Asia.

They also appealed to the world community to put pressure on New Delhi to accept Kashmir as disputed territory, withdraw troops and release all the illegally detained pro-freedom leaders and activists so that way for Kashmir settlement could be paved. »
