Former Sri Lankan President detained at Srinagar airport

Srinagar, June 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the puppet administration had to face major embarrassment when police detained former Sri Lankan President, Chandrika Bandranaike Kumaratunge at Srinagar Airport on May 24.

A local daily of Srinagar ‘Etalaat’ reported that Kumaratunge was detained at the airport for almost an hour. She had come to Srinagar to take part in the programmes organised by the South Asian Federation (SAF).

The officials told Kumaratunge that she would have to wait till clearance since they did not have any information about her visit. Despite her repeated pleas that she was visiting the occupied territory on an invitation of the Indian government, Kumaratunge was forced to stay inside the airport. The matter was resolved only after the Sri Lankan High Commission officials at New Delhi confirmed her identity.
