Mirwaiz, Gilani denounce killing of student

Srinagar, February 06 (KMS): In Srinagar, thousands of people took to streets and staged forceful demonstrations in Shalimar area, today, to protest against the killing of a 10th class student by Indian troops, last evening.

The martyred, who was the second teenager in a week killed without any provocation by the troops in Srinagar, was buried amidst slogans, ‘We Want Freedom’. Vociferous protests rocked Srinagar despite the fact that the authorities had imposed curfew restrictions in the city sealing all roads leading to it. The protestors were targeted with teargas shells by the paramilitary troopers’ leaving scores injured.
 
The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who remained under house for the third successive day, today, while condemning the killing termed it as one of the worst examples of Indian state terrorism. He appealed the people to massively march on Monday towards the United Nations Observers Office at Sonawar in Srinagar to seek international intervention on Kashmir.
 
Veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Yasmeen Raja, Javed Ahmad Mir, Fareeda Behanji, Mehmood Ahmad Saghar, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo, Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl, Jamaat-e-Islami, High Court Bar Association, Dukhtaran-e-Millat and Tehreek Wahdat-e-Islami in their separate statements denounced the killing.
 
On the other hand, protests were also staged in Sopore, Badgam, Pampore, Shopian, Kulgam, Pulwama, Islamabad and other cities and towns of the occupied territory against stepped up Indian state terrorism. Indian police raided the office of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League in Srinagar and arrested two party activists.
 
Meanwhile, Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed for traffic, today, due to snowfall at Jawahar tunnel.
