Chandigarh, May 05 (KMS): The CBI has taken into custody a civilian employee working in the Ordnance Branch of Indian Army on charges of corruption.
The employee, A K Sondhi was working in the Ordnance Branch of the Chandimandir based Headquarter of Western Command in Haryana. He was arrested red-handed while accepting a large amount of money from a prospective candidate for recruitment in an Indian Army Ordnance establishment. Army authorities had been keeping a tab on his activities for the last six months.
The preliminary searches at Sondhi’s residence led to the recovery of huge amount of cash and other assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Coincidentally, the wife of the individual is also an employee in the same department.
The CBI is interrogating Sondhi to establish the extent of his involvement in the recruitment racket and other corrupt practices. Since the CBI is the competent authority to conduct investigations into corrupt practices by Government employees, the army authorities sought their assistance in a bid to identify and root out corruption within its own ranks.
