Elections not substitute to plebiscite: APHC leader

Srinagar, May 17 (KMS): Leader of the All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Nayeem Ahmed Khan has emphasised that the so-called elections in occupied Kashmir cannot be substitute to the right to self determination promised to Kashmiris in the United Nations.

The APHC leader was addressing a Friday congregation at Lal Bazar in Srinagar. He said, “Polls have been held in the occupied territory many times since 1947 and these had no bearing on the disputed nature of Kashmir,” adding that India would not succeed to weaken the Kashmiris’ liberation movement by holding elections.

Nayeem Ahmed Khan urged India to withdraw special powers given to the troops, revoke Disturbed Areas Act and release all the political prisoners to create conducive atmosphere for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

Paying glowing tributes to Kashmiri liberation martyrs including Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Gani Lone, Nayeem Ahmad Khan pointed out that the supreme sacrifices of Kashmiris would not be allowed go waste.

Addressing a public gathering at Chanapora in Srinagar, another APHC leader, Zafar Akbar Butt said that sacrifices rendered by the people of occupied territory have highlighted the Kashmir issue on the international arena. He maintained that the peace and stability in south Asia could not prevail till the Kashmir dispute was resolved in accordance with Kashmiris’ aspirations.
