Srinagar, May 09 (KMS): The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that the recent statement of former puppet Chief Minister and NC patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah that elections have no bearing on the Kashmir dispute is an acknowledgement of APHC’s stand on Kashmir.
The APHC Chairman in a media interview in Khanyar said that the admission of Farooq Abdullah shows that the pro-India parties have recognized the stand of the Hurriyat, which has time and again said that elections will never provide a solution of Kashmir dispute.
Mirwaiz, however, pointed out that the statement may be an election gimmick to befool the people who had rejected economic package. “Since pro-Indian parties have failed to entice the voters on all fronts they are now pursuing the agenda of pro-freedom parties to meet their own interests” he said.
Referring to the Khanyar massacre, Mirwaiz said that Indian troops opened fire on civilians without any provocation adding that although the commission found troops guilty of killing the civilians Indian government is yet to punish the culprits fearing that any action against the troops would affect their moral.
More than 30 Kashmiris were martyred and over 70 were injured when Indian troops resorted to indiscriminate firing on them when they were offering funeral prayers of three youth at martyrs’ graveyard in Khanyar on May 08, 1991.
