Indian troops martyr 22 innocent Kashmiris in January
Srinagar, February 01 (KMS): In Srinagar, Indian troops running amok, today, subjected people including women and mediamen to brute force to break up demonstrations, sparked by the killing of a 14-year-old boy by an Indian police officer, yesterday. The troops thrashed the demonstrators injuring several of them. Many newsmen were among those injured.
The localities in Srinagar including Maisuma, Dalgate, Rainawari, Safa Kadal, Nowhatta and Batamaloo witnessed huge protests marked by a total shutdown and clashes between the troops and demonstrators. Dead body of the martyred was taken into a big procession and buried amid high-pitched anti-India and pro-liberation slogans. Thousands of people participated in the funeral.
The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani condemning the recent killings of innocent youth by the troops have given a call for total strike tomorrow. Other leaders, who denounced the killings included Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Mian Abdul Qayoom, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Yasmeen Raja, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza and Javed Ahmad Mir.
On the other hand, the data released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, today, revealed that Indian troops, in their continued acts of state terrorism, martyred 22 Kashmiris including 3 teenaged boys during the last month of January. One of the martyred was killed in custody. These killings rendered seven women widowed and fifteen children orphaned. During the month, the troops injured 277 persons, arrested 41, subjecting one of them to custodial disappearance. 9 residential structures were destroyed by the troops with heavy mortar shelling during the month.
