Demonstrations, strike continue in Sopore

Inquiry into disappearances in IHK demanded

Srinagar, March 19 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, forceful demonstrations, marked by complete shutdown, continued for the third consecutive Day, today, in Sopore against the killing of a youth by Indian troops. Indian police resorted to heavy lathi charge and excessive teargas shelling to break up the protests.

Clashes between the demonstrators and the police personnel were witnessed throughout the day. Strike was also observed in Brein area of Srinagar against Indian state terrorism.

Addressing a public gathering in Islamabad, veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani said that the people of Kashmir would never accept India’s illegal occupation, come what may.

Meanwhile, the occupation authorities have refused to issue travel documents to the President of High Court Bar Association, Mian Abdul Qayoom, who has received a formal letter from the concerned passport officer to that effect.

In Geneva, the speakers addressing a seminar appealed to the international community to fully support the Kashmiri people in their struggle to secure inalienable right to self-determination. The speakers included Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Lord Nazir Ahmed, Professor Angana Chatterji, Ms Victoria Schofield, Dr Karen Paker, Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl, Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai and Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo. Speaking on another panel, Dr Angana Chatterji demanded an independent inquiry into the enforced disappearances in occupied Kashmir. »
