Demonstration in Srinagar against burning of shrine

Srinagar, July 08 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, people held protest demonstration against Indian troops at Soura in Srinagar for setting ablaze the shrine of Jenab Sahib in the area on Saturday.

Shouting slogans against the troops, hundreds of people, including women demanded an immediate independent probe into the incident to bring the culprits to book. “We will continue the protests till the perpetrators are not arrested,” the protesters said.

“We will not allow desecration of the shrines. It’s a deep rooted conspiracy to destroy our religious places,” the protesters maintained.

It is pertinent to mention that more than a dozen people including several journalists were injured after police and the Indian Central Reserve Police Force personnel used force to disperse the demonstrators protesting against the burning of the shrine.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League, Mushtaq-ul-Islam condemned attacks by Indian troops on journalists while performing their professional duties at Soura in Srinagar. He termed the attack on journalists as an attempt to choke freedom of expression and praised the role of Kashmiri journalists working in an atmosphere of coercion and intimidation.

Mushtaq-ul-Islam maintained that the attacks on the Kashmiri journalists would not deter them to continue their work with highest degree of commitment and dedication.
