Brussels May 24 (KMS): Kashmiris will hold a demonstration in Brussels on Tuesday to draw the attention of the European Union (EU) towards the discovery of unnamed mass graves in occupied Kashmir.
The demonstration is being organized by the Kashmir Centre Brussels. Kashmiris living in different countries in EU will participate in the demonstration. A petition will also be presented to the Union on the occasion.
The petition said that since 1989 when mass resistance against Indian occupation in Kashmir erupted an estimated 8 to 10 thousand persons have become victims of enforced disappearances.
According to a rights group based at Srinagar, nearly two hundred thousand relatives of disappeared persons have been putting untiring efforts to ascertain the whereabouts of their missing ones. In vast majority of these disappearance cases, people mostly male were detained during cordon and search operation.
The petition further said that Indian army and paramilitary forces have been abducting Kashmiris whose whereabouts remain unknown to this day. There are cases where innocent Kashmiris after detention have been killed in fake encounters at different places ad then labelled as non-Kashmiri militants. It was in 2005 that the wide spread phenomenon of unmarked graves at different places began to emerge.
