Srinagar, May 06 (KMS): In Srinagar, the District Session’s Judge has directed the puppet regime to pay Rs two lakhs to the family members of a youth who was killed by the Indian Border Security Force personnel (BSF) 15 years ago in custody.

Indian Border Security Force personnel killed a 22-year-old law student Sajjad Ahmed Chowdhary of Sarai Bala on April 19, 1993 in Srinagar. The father of martyred youth, Ghulam Nabi Chowdhary who had filed a petition in the court said that troopers of 117- battalion of BSF had arrested his son from Sarai Bala during a crackdown operation and later killed him along with three other civilians in custody.

The court on Monday nullified the arguments of BSF and decided in favour of the petitioner.

Meanwhile, Indian troops of 19/Dogra regiment have dug trenches and constructed bunkers in the graveyard in Mendhar area of Poonch district. The local administrator (tehsildar) confirmed the occupation of the graveyard by the troops. "It is true that the troops have dug trenches and constructed bunkers in the graveyard. The troops have already fenced the graveyard and the shrine. People are not allowed to visit or carry burials in the graveyard." the tehslidar said.
