Kashmiri leaders welcome EU resolution
Srinagar, July 12 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Kashmir Martyrs Day, will be marked with a complete strike all across the territory tomorrow and large gathering at Mazar-e-Shuhada at Naqashband Sahib in Srinagar.
The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that the day will be observed as Youm-e-Istaqlal to reaffirm Kashmiris’ resolve that the sacrifices of the liberation martyrs will never be allowed to go waste, come what may. He said that the strike would not affect the transport so that people did not face difficulties in reaching the Mazar-e Shuhada where a big rally will jointly be addressed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Gilani. It was on this day in 1931 that the Dogra troops shot dead 22 Kashmiris one after the other in front of Srinagar Central Jail.
APHC-AJK Chapter and other organizations of Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir have also planned to hold Fateha, seminars and conferences on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the Executive Directors of Kashmir Centres in Washington and London, Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai and Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl and APHC leaders, Nayeem Ahmed Khan and Yasmeen Raja in their separate statements welcomed the resolution unanimously passed by the European Parliament in Strasburg on Thursday on the unidentified graves discovered in occupied Kashmir. The resolution called upon Indian government to urgently ensure an independent and impartial investigation into all suspected sites of mass graves in the territory.
India urged to give up intransigence
Addressing a gathering on the occasion of Shaheed Maqbool Butt award distribution ceremony in Srinagar, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik urged India to read the writing on the wall and give up its intransigent approach towards resolving the Kashmir dispute. He maintained that the time was not far off when the people of Kashmir will see the dawn of freedom. Later the JKLF Chairman distributed Shaheed Maqbool Butt awards in honour of the six Kashmiris, martyred during the recent massive protests against the transfer of Kashmiris’ land to non-Kashmiris. The function was attended among others by the members of Kashmir Bar Association, prominent scholars, doctors, professors, bussinessmen and relatives of the martyrs.
