Srinagar, May 20 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, complete strike will be observed tomorrow at the conclusion of the Martyrdom Week, to pay tributes to the prominent liberation leaders Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, on their martyrdom anniversaries.
The strike is being observed on the call of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.
Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq was martyred in Srinagar on May 21 in 1990 by Indian agents after shooting him at point-blank range in his house in Srinagar. Indian troops fired indiscriminately at Mirwaiz’s funeral procession in Hawal area, martyring 70 mourners. Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone was similarly martyred on the same day in 2002, when he was returning after addressing a gathering organized at Eidgah in Srinagar to commemorate Mirwaiz Farooq’s martyrdom anniversary.
Addressing a rally organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee at Rajouri Kadal in Srinagar, today, the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq paid rich tributes to the Kashmiri martyrs and expressed the confidence that their unique sacrifices would not be allowed to go waste. Senior APHC leader, Professor Abdul Ghani Butt also spoke on the occasion.
In London, the Executive Director of Kashmir Centre, Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl in a statement welcomed the secretarial and ministerial level meetings between India and Pakistan and hoped that the centrality of core issue of Kashmir would be acknowledged in the dialogue process.
