Brother Languishing in Tihar, sisters threaten suicide

Srinagar, April 20 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the sisters of a Kashmiri youth, Muhammad Iqbal Jan, a resident of Bandipora, languishing in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail for the past two years, have threatened to commit suicide if their brother was not released.

The sisters of Iqbal, who was arrested by Delhi Police on November 13, 2006, told mediamen in Srinagar that he is innocent and police till date has failed to prove the charges against him.

Iqbal’s sister Salma said that her brother had gone to New Delhi to clear the dues of some traders from whom he used to purchase various items. ”They framed charges against him to get promotion and rewards,” she said adding that the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) had also issued a non-involvement certificate (NIC) in Iqbal’s favour but police refused to entertain the NIC and to carryout any investigations in Bandipora.

“If our brother is not released I along with my sisters would not be left with any option other than to commit suicide,” said Salma.
