Attack on photojournalist in Srinagar condemned

Srinagar, February 23 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, a photojournalist of a local English daily was injured when Indian police used brute force against peaceful demonstrators at Maisuma in Srinagar.

A photojournalist, Imran Ali, was injured when he was discharging his professional duties during a peaceful protest demonstration and a policeman threw an exploded teargas shell at him. The photojournalist’s nose was fractured and he received another injury on his forehead. The policemen also severally beat up two other media persons, Tariq Ahmad and Umar Ganai.

The police and CRPF personnel asked the photojournalists not to click photograph. The mediamen told them that they were discharging their professional duty but the policemen thrashed photojournalists and injured one of them, Imran Ali.

The journalist fraternity has strongly condemned the police action against the photojournalists. The Kashmir Photo Journalists Association while denouncing the incident said that the media persons were deliberately being targeted by the occupation authorities to prevent them from discharging their professional duties. »
