Troops use brute force in Srinagar

Srinagar, April 25 (KMS): In Srinagar, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was arrested today at Dalgate while he was leading a motorcade participated by thousands of protesters. He was proceeding from Jamia mosque to Sonawar to handover a memorandum to the UN Observers Office.

The protests were staged on the occasion of Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh’s visit to Jammu. The Indian troops stopped the motorcade at Dalgate where hundreds of Hurriyet leaders and activists were arrested. Several protesters were injured when the troops resorted to aerial firing, heavy lathi charge and excessive tear-gassing. The protesters raised high pitched anti-India and pro-liberation slogans on the occasion.
