APDP stages sit-in in Srinagar

Srinagar, July 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP) has demanded the setting up of a credible international commission to probe the cases of Kashmiris disappeared in the custody of Indian troops.

The demand was made during a silent sit-in staged by the APDP at Pratap Park in Srinagar to draw world attention towards the enforced disappearance of thousands of Kashmiris by Indian troops since 1989. The Association also called for complete strike on August 30, the International Day of Disappeared.

The sit-in was participated by dozens of men and women with banners and placards seeking the whereabouts of their loved ones. Relatives of disappeared persons hold the sit-in every month to seek the whereabouts of their loved ones who were last seen in the custody of troops.

Talking to Mediamen on the occasion the APDP chairperson, Parveena Ahanger, said that the Association would soon approach various pro-freedom leaders, Bar Association, Employees Joint Action Committee, Traders Federation and urge them to support the strike on August 30. She said that the authorities have failed to address the issue of enforced disappearances in the territory.
