Srinagar, April 21 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, hundreds of people staged a protest demonstration against continued Indian state terrorism in Baramulla district.
The protestors told media men that the troopers of 79-Mountain Brigade are forcibly digging up a bore well at Oplina village in the district and are trying to grab their natural resources. “They want us to die for water by utilizing our natural resources,” said protestors.
Hundreds of people, largely Sikh community took to the streets at Oplina, 8 kms from district headquarters, to protest against the Indian occupation forces. The protestors blocked the vehicular traffic on the road and the blockade continued for several hours.
The protestors asserted, “We will not let anyone grab our natural resources. If they continue to grab our resources, we will be left with no option but to migrate from the area”. “In 1994 the Indian army occupied 111 kanals of land from the villagers,” said an angry protestor, Balbir Singh.
One of the protestor, Surinder Singh Sodhi said, “The only source of water for the residents of Oplina is the underground water. We use water of wells and hand pumps”. He said that the village’s 80 families with a population of 900 depend on 30 wells for drinking water. “If they make the bore well for supplying water to camps, it will make our wells dry,” he added.
Meanwhile, Indian troops arrested five innocent Kashmiri youth from Awantipora and Qazigund areas.
