Amnesty urged to probe mass graves in IHK

London, May 03 (KMS): The Executive Director Kashmir Centre London, Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl has urged Amnesty International to come forward for impartial enquiry into unknown graves issue and human rights violations committed by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir.

Professor Shawl who met Deputy Director Asia Pacific Mr. Timothy Parrit at Amnesty headquarters in London handed over to him a written request.

The letter said, “We are thankful for your responding to the discovery of the recent human tragedy in Jammu and Kashmir where unmarked mass graves have been discovered. Similar such graves were discovered in other conflict areas such as Bosnia, Iraq, Kosovo and Cyprus where the international community responded with speed and instituted enquiries. Even those who committed crimes against humanity were identified with Slobodan Milosevic being one such name in this category of people.”

The letter added, “My request to Amnesty International is that the organization presses for an international, impartial enquiry into this human rights crescendo, which has befallen Kashmir, and it is imperative that all aspects of the issue including the disappearances, subsequent torture and final disposal of mutilated bodies needs to be probed.”
