4 killed as bus plunges into gorge in IHK

Srinagar, February 07 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, four persons were killed and one injured when a bus rolled down into a gorge on Jammu-Ramban highway, today.

The bus, which was on its way from Ramban to Jammu, skidded off the highway and rolled down into the gorge at Jhakhani belt in Udhampur district. Four persons died on the spot while one received injuries.

Meanwhile, with no let up in snowfall and rain in occupied Kashmir, traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway, remained closed for the second consecutive day, today. The 300-km highway, the only land link between Kashmir and rest of the world, is closed for traffic for the second day as there was no let up in snow, a spokesman of the traffic control told media men.

Heavy snowfall from Friday night in Banihal-Qazigund areas on the highway led to the closure of vehicular movement at Jawahar tunnel. Over 1,700 vehicles are stranded at various points including Ramban, Banihal, Patnitop, Udhampur and Nagrota on the highway, the traffic official said. »
