The APHC spokesman, Ayaz Akbar in a statement issued in Srinagar said that army personnel and paramilitary forces had been deployed in nook and corner of the occupied territory to frighten and harass the people. »

Call for demos, rallies against holding of elections

Srinagar, April 08 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has strongly appealed to the people to completely boycott the farcical Indian Parliamentary by-elections, tomorrow, to safeguard the sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs.

Polling for the so-called Indian Parliamentary by-polls will be held in three districts of Srinagar, Badgam and Ganderbal, tomorrow.

The resistance leaders have also called for complete shutdown and anti-election rallies in these districts to protest against the staging of election drama. They said that sham polls could not be a substitute to the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and were held only to strengthen Indian illegal hold on Kashmir and to mislead the world about the ground situation of the occupied territory. They asked the people to stay away from the polling process and demonstrate the same resolve and spirit they showed during last year’s mass uprising. »

Motorcade of PDP leader stoned in Bijbehara

Srinagar, April 08 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, spontaneous strike was observed at Beerwah in Budgam district, today, after troops of Indian paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) resorted to aerial firing and teargas shelling to disperse protesters in the area.

Witnesses said that youth assembled in Beerwah market, shouted anti-India slogans and pelted stones on a vehicle carrying polling staff and CRPF troops. They said that the troops fired in air to make way out of the market.

Following the clashes between the protesters and the paramilitary personnel, shopkeepers downed their shutters and chaos descended on the whole market. »

Srinagar, April 08 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the residents of Hamdania Colony in Bemina area of Srinagar that was flooded after a breach in the flood spill channel turned down Indian Army offer of help.

A contingent of Indian Army that appeared in the area along with a Casspir mine-proof vehicle was asked by residents to leave. The residents also did not allow the soldiers to take pictures. »

Jammu, April 08 KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the activists of extremist Hindu organizations harassed players from the Kashmir Valley during a match of inter-university football tournament played at the Jammu University in Jammu.

Eyewitnesses told media that about 40 activists of rightwing Hindu organizations stormed a ground at the Jammu University and forcibly stopped a football match between teams of Islamic University of Science and Technology Kashmir and host Jammu University. »

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continues to be under house arrest, in a statement issued in Srinagar said, the elections held in occupied Kashmir by India are deceptive as these are sold by the government of India to the world as an expression of people’s will regarding their future. He said the reality is that for the past 70 years, the people of Kashmir are engaged in a struggle for achieving their right to decide their political future through self-determination as guaranteed by the United Nations. »
