Farida Behanji, many others arrested in IOK
Srinagar, March 20 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani and senior Hurriyet leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while reiterating call for boycott of upcoming sham Indian parliamentary elections have said that pro-India local political parties are pursuing the Indian agenda in the territory.
Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that pro-India parties were not interested in people’s welfare but were running after power and perks. He added that these parties were responsible for the agonies of the people as through their actions they were justifying illogical occupation of India over Kashmir.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a media interview said that resistance leadership would write to every imam of Masjid to urge people in their Friday sermons to stay away from the so-called election process. He denounced the continued detention of Hurriyet leaders and activists and imposition of restrictions on their religious and political activities by the authorities.
Meanwhile, ahead of Indian parliamentary elections to be held in central and south Kashmir on 9th and 12th of April, the Indian authorities have intensified crackdown on Hurriyet leaders and activists. The police have either arrested or placed under house detention Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and Aasiya Andrabi to prevent them from running poll boycott campaign.
The police also arrested Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement Chairperson, Farida Behanji along with party leaders and activists in Srinagar, today. The arrests were made when Farida Behanji was leading an anti-India protest demonstration at Aabi Guzur in Srinagar.
The member of so-called Kashmir Assembly, Engineer Abdur Rasheed addressing a press conference in Srinagar said that elections were not substitute to a free and fair plebiscite for resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
On the other hand, several PDP workers were injured when they were attacked with stones during an election convention in Chewgam area of Kulgam district. So-called puppet Minister Abdul Haq and member assembly Nazir Ahmad Laway also came under attack on the occasion. The Democratic Freedom Party while reacting over the stone-pelting reports said that those who killed Kashmiri children and snatched their vision deserved such treatment.Follow @kmsnewz
