‘Kashmiri detainees being deprived of basic rights in jail’

Jammu, October 16 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the illegally detained Kashmiris have complained that the jail authorities are not presenting them in courts on the hearing dates to prolong their illegal detention.

They were talking to a five-member delegation of High Court Bar Association of the occupied territory led by its President, Mian Abdul Qayoom at Udhampur Jail.

The detainees also informed the bar members that the jail authorities were not providing them the facilities and rights under the regulations of the jail manuals. The detainees also requested the visiting lawyers for speedy proceedings of habeas corpus matters.

Later, talking to media men, the President of the Bar Association, Mian Abdul Qayoom deplored that the illegally detained Kashmiris were being deprived of fundamental rights in jail. He said that he met dozens of political prisoners in the jail and found that several of them were not being produced to courts on the days of hearing.

The team comprised the Bar President, Mian Abdul Qayoom, Vice President, Aijaz Bedar, Finance Secretary Tanveer Ahmad Butt, senior advocates, Rafiq Ahmad Joo and Arshid Andrabi. »
