‘Azadi’ chants echo in IHK educational institutions

Srinagar, August 21 (KMS):  In occupied Kashmir, the ‘Azadi’ wave, which reverberated in the Kashmir Valley during the three weeks, is sweeping across the Valley’s education institutions with slogans like “We want freedom, hum kya chahtey, Azadi” as the students returned to their classrooms after a break of more than 15 days.

Thousands of students from various colleges and schools in Srinagar boycotted classes and demanded freedom from India. Students from SP College, Maulana Azad Women’s College, Gandhi College, and Islamia College in Srinagar took out a procession through the Maulana Azad Road, Residency Road, Regal Chowk, Lal Chowk and Rainawari and raised slogans like ‘Raghda Raghda, government ko Raghda’, ‘Hay Haq Hamara Azadi’, ‘Jeevay Jeevay Pakistan’ ‘Hamari mandi Rawalpindi’. Students from different Government Higher Secondary Schools also joined the protest march.

They also condemned the economic blockade enforced by the Hindu extremists in Jammu and the killing of students at the hands of Indian troops during Muzaffarabad Chalo March. The students told media men that Srinagar-Muzaffarabad Road should be opened for trade so that Kashmiri traders can use it due to the economic blockade of Valley. We should seek supplies from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, they demanded.

The students later visited the residence of the slain students Faisal Ahmad Dar a PUC student of S P School and Owais Majeed 2nd year student of Islamia College and offered condolences with the bereaved families.

Meanwhile, student of Baramulla and Sopore colleges accompanied by their teachers protested against the killing of a college student Tahir Ahmed Lone by the Indian troops on August 11.

Meanwhile, people from all walks of life continued to stage torch processions across the Srinagar city in the evening amidst pro-liberation, pro-Pakistan and anti-India slogans. We want to register our protest against the choking of supplies to the Valley and the killing of our brethren by Indian troops. We don’t want a letup in the protests, said a group of youth protesting near Solina in Srinagar. “Peace and normalcy will be sham unless people are given the basic right to self-determination,” said Basharat Ahmad of Nowhatta.
